Mariana Barrote
Mariana Barrote (Fão, 1986), currently lives in Viana do Castelo. She has a degree in fine arts (Painting) from the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Porto and currently attends a master's degree in fine arts (drawing) by the same Faculty. Her drawings come from movement; Simple lines outlined in charcoal or indian ink seem to float on the paper. It is the material that guides the contour, and then strange figures take shape, vigorously drawn and yet so light and delicate. Mariana Barrote's work is full of images of ancient myths and cultures that, in line with the simplicity of her technique, evoke a certain primitive expression and rhythm. From her research and artistic practice derives the aggregation of images and representations capable of reflecting the body's own dynamics: vitality; violence; presence and death. Through her painting but also drawing and, recently, the experimentation with video, she elaborates suggestions and narratives for other gazes to decipher.
