Serena Barbieri
Serena Barbieri, 1987. Artist and researcher from Florence, living and working in Oporto since 2015. Currently a PhD student in the PhD program in Contemporary Art at the College of Arts of the University of Coimbra, her university path began with a Bachelor’s Degree in Biological Sciences from University of Florence, followed by two years of Degree in Arts and Multimedia at IUAV University of Venice, and the Master’s Degree in Contemporary Artistic Practices at the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Porto. Her research and reflection process in the arts and her artistic practice and production are related to the knowledge learned during scientific studies, as well as the experiences and the many stimuli received during the years of artistic studies. Despite the approach to the plastic arts, the work clearly reveals the basic scientific formation, which is also expressed in the way the different dimensions of the notions of experimentation are crossed. She participates in collective, solo exhibitions and residencies in Portugal and Italy, and since 2017 she has been responsible for the Atelier SantoIsidro’s project, a studio and exhibition space that is part of the independent artistic circuit of the city of Porto (Portugal).
